What is 3PL / Freight Forwarding?
3PL, or third-party logistics, is a service in which a company outsources all or part of its logistics and distribution functions to a third-party provider. This can include warehouse management, transportation, and logistics planning. Freight forwarding is a subset of 3PL that specifically deals with the transportation of goods. Freight forwarders act as intermediaries between shippers and carriers, arranging for the transportation of goods by air, sea, or ground. They handle the logistics of getting goods from one place to another, including customs clearance, insurance, and tracking. They also help shippers with compliance, documentation, and other logistics-related tasks. In summary, 3PL is a broader term that covers various logistics functions, while freight forwarding is a specific service within 3PL that deals with the transportation of goods.
